Grand piano found on sandbar in Miami

A U.S. Coast Guard boat passes near a grand piano on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay, Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 in Miami. The piano recently showed up on the sandbar, about 200 yards from condominiums on the shore. The piano, which weighs at least 650 pounds, was placed at the highest spot along the sandbar so it doesn't get underwater during high tide. While officials aren't sure how it got there, they know it won't be going anywhere unless it becomes a hazard to wildlife or boaters.

First photograph of a Snowflake
Jan. 21, 2011 -- No two snowflakes are alike -- but how do we know this? Well, the answer comes from Wilson A. Bentley's late-19th century photomicrography of snowflakes.
A Vermont farmer, Bentley became fascinated by the crystalline structure of snowflakes as a child and began experimenting with trying to capture the singular shape of a snowflake under a microscope with a bellows camera -- the contraptions with a folding box of pleated material between the lens and film.
"Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others. Every crystal was a masterpiece of design and no one design was ever repeated. When a snowflake melted, that design was forever lost. Just that much beauty was gone, without leaving any record behind," Bentley is quoted by the Jericho Historical Society.
During a snowstorm on Jan. 15, 1885, Bentley became the first person to ever photograph a single snowflake.
Although it took years for Bentley to establish a process to photograph snowflakes, once he mastered it, his only complaint was the cold.
Read more at news.discovery.com"The photographing of snowflakes, although quite delicate work, can hardly be called difficult, although some hardships attend it, because the work must all be done in a temperature below freezing, and under conditions of much physical exposure,” Bentley wrote in a 1922 article for Popular Mechanics Magazine.

These amazing images show sprawling cities built in remote parts of china which are completely empty, even years after construction! China in their drive for high GDP figures has created a huge real estate speculative boom which is at dangerous levels. Around 20 new cities are built every where which find few end users.

Female linesman defies sexist comments
Female assistant referee Sian Massey made a mockery of Richard Keys and Andy Gray with a flawless performance in Wolves' game against Liverpool.
The Sky presenters were recorded making insulting off-air remarks before the game.
“Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her,” Keys said on a leaked tape.
Gray replied: “Can you believe that? A female linesman. Women don’t know the offside rule.”
The pair have been suspended for Sky's broadcast of the Monday night match between Bolton and Chelsea, and their comments were made to look ridiculous by Massey.
