Bulging waistlines

Just love the photo :)

Amplify’d from www.npr.org

Let's just get this sad fact out of the way: Two-thirds of Americans are either overweight or obese.

You knew that, I'd guess. We've written about the fattening of America, and its health consequences, again and again.

But if the whole thing seems a little abstract, consider this: Fewer us can fit on boats now. The Coast Guard is raising its assumption of how much the average American weighs to 185 pounds, up 9 16 percent from the current benchmark of 160 pounds.

These guys probably bring down the weight average.

Greek state television reported a bomb threat was made to a holiday company in Britain. However, the BBC said the threat was received by an Egyptian news agency and passed on to the plane's crew.

Libya: 400 illegal immigrants 'disappear' on way to Italy

Aid agencies and coastguards are attempting to discover the whereabouts of two
boats carrying more than 400 illegal immigrants towards Italy which have
disappeared.

Aid agencies and coastguards are attempting to discover the whereabouts of two boats carrying more than 400 illegal immigrants towards Italy which have disappeared.

The two boats set off from Libya
almost two weeks ago carrying Eritreans and Somalians and have not been
since – the last news was more than a week ago via a telephone call from
both vessels to relatives in northern Europe.

Officials say the most likely destination was the island of Lampedusa, which
has been inundated with more than 18,000 refugees.

Federico Fossi, a UN spokesman, said they had received reports one of the
missing vessels may have sunk as a Libyan news channel reported the
discovery of 60 bodies in the sea.

Smart Drugs

Do 'smart drugs' really make us brainier?

"One pill. Anything is possible." That's the message advertising Limitless, a film showing in cinemas this week.

Starring Bradley Cooper and Robert de Niro, the film tells the story of a writer who takes an experimental drug that allows him to use 100% of his mind.

Success, fame and a much-improved hairdo follow. The designer pharmaceutical turns him from being disorganised and unmotivated into someone laser-focused and more confident than any man alive.
