Can Diets Fight Chronic Pain? The Science Isn't There

Claims that strawberries and other foods rich in antioxidants can reduce inflammation and pain aren't backed up by much research.

The Internet is littered with diets and supplements that claim to cure everything from everyday aches and pains to heart disease, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease and cancer — all by reducing inflammation.

Alternative medicine guru Andrew Weil recommends an anti-inflammation diet, and plans like The Zone and the Mediterranean diet are also built on the principles of the anti-inflammation theory.

6 Life lessons I'v learned from the farm

6 Life Lessons I’ve Learned from the Farm

Driving out to the country amongst the small family farms always brings me to a happy place in my heart. I know the way to Grandma and Grandpa’s farm by heart, not just by the roads that bring me there but by the hills and the fields I pass along the way. I can spot my grandparent’s clump of trees that encapsulate their 19th century farm home at least a mile away.

I spent countless days of my childhood on the farm – mooing at the cows and watching grandpa plow the fields while grandma tends to her garden. I relish every visit to the farm – it is something I will miss dearly when I move to Costa Rica. Grandma so often has a pan of brownies ready for the taking (unless Grandpa has gotten to them already). And of course, there’s nothing like a good ol’ fashioned Christmas down on the farm.

Men Stuck In Adolescence: Why It's Everyone's Problem

A man plays video games

Has the rise of powerful women turned men into boys? This is the question author Kay Hymowitz asks in her provocative new book, Manning Up. Hymowitz argues that men today are free from the traditional tests of manhood—marrying and providing for children—and this freedom comes at a price: an increasing number of men are stuck in a state of permanent adolescence.

Group of deaf, mute friends stabbed at bar after thug mistakes sign language for gang signs

Alfred Stewart, 31, who is deaf, and some friends were partying at a bar when a gang-banger mistook their sign language for gang signs.

A group of deaf friends were stabbed at a bar in Florida after a woman mistook their sign language for gang signs.

Alfred Stewart, 31, was partying at the Ocean's Eleven Lounge in Hallendale Beach, Fla., with some friends who were also deaf on Saturday night when the group's signing caught the eye of gang-banger Barbara Lee.

The 45-year-old Lee though the group was throwing gang signs at her, and responded by flashing gang signs back at them, cops said.

The group motioned for her to leave them alone.

Top Ten Unexplained Phenomena

The Taos Hum
-IMAGEALT-

Some residents and visitors in the small city of Taos, New Mexico, have for years been annoyed and puzzled by a mysterious and faint low-frequency hum in the desert air. Oddly, only about 2 percent of Taos residents report hearing the sound. Some believe it is caused by unusual acoustics; others suspect mass hysteria or some secret, sinister purpose. Whether described as a whir, hum, or buzz and whether psychological, natural, or supernatural no one has yet been able to locate the sound's origin.

The largest Item on a Menu

Amplify’d from www.todayifoundout.com

Today I found out that the largest item on a menu in the world is whole camel which is often stuffed with a lamb which has been stuffed with chickens which has been stuffed with fish or eggs;  the whole lot also tends to have rice and other fixings mixed in at each stuffing stage.

As you might expect, cooking this particular menu item is no easy culinary act.  So, given that it’s hard to get an invitation to such events as dinner parties with a Sheik, where it is occasionally served, and the relative difficulty and expense of preparing the thing, it’s not surprising that, for a long time, whether such a menu item was actually ever prepared was a controversial topic of discussion among foodies of the world, despite it being in the Guinness Book of World Records.   However, documented cases of it being prepared can be found, such as in The Fearless Diner by Richard Sterling where he both partook in such a dish and met someone who’d actually been asked to make it for a wedding for a Sheik, which he subsequently did.
