Shops will be banned from displaying cigarettes under new strict rules being implemented by the Government. Skip related content
Tobacco products will have to be kept under the counter in larger stores from April 2012 and in all shops by April 2015.
A move on plain packaging, which would make England the first country in Europe to enforce such restrictions on branding, will go to consultation.
The Department of Health said it was keeping an "open mind" on the possibility and would consult on different options before the end of this year.
